Financial Controller

ROLE:   5 days full-time

LOCATION:   Flexible, hybrid working between our Thame Studio in Oxfordshire and some home working

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller to join our dynamic team and contribute to our continued success and growth.

Job Summary 

As the Financial Controller, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of the financial health of the company, and providing strategic insights to drive business growth. You will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring robust financial controls are in place. In this role, you will provide strategic financial insights to support the growth and development of each division, while leading a small team to maintain accuracy and compliance in all financial processes. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong background in financial management, as well as team leadership and business partnering skills.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management and Reporting:

  • Development of financial strategies, policies, and procedures
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
  • Oversee all financial operations including month end, budgeting, forecasting, rate setting, management reporting, payroll and tax compliance
  • Lead the annual budgeting & rates setting process in collaboration with division heads, providing analysis and support to ensure alignment with company goals
  • Oversee cash flow management and ensure adequate liquidity for operations

 

Business Partnering:

  • Work closely with divisional leads (Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Design, and Project Management) to optimise financial performance across all divisions
  • Prepare and present timely and accurate financial information to the management team
  • Provide financial modelling and analysis to support strategic decision-making and business planning
  • Provide insights and recommendations to support business growth and profitability, and guide business decisions
  • Advise on effective cost management and resource allocation strategies
  • Promote team engagement, collaboration and consistency across core systems
  • Oversee the financial aspects of project management, ensuring projects are delivered on budget and within scope
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders

 

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets
  • Liaise with external Accountants/Auditors to ensure compliance with Financial regulations
  • Identify and manage financial risks, implementing mitigation strategies where necessary
  • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets
  • Input into risk management activities, including insurance coverage

 

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability and continuous professional development
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment

 

Systems & Process Improvement:

  • Continuously assess financial processes for efficiency and effectiveness
  • Implement process improvements to enhance the accuracy, speed, and quality of financial reporting

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
  • Professional Accounting Qualification (e.g. CIMA, ACCA, ACA)
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a financial management role
  • Experience in the architecture or design industry would be beneficial
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Proactive and results-driven
  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines
