A Barn Conversion Becomes a Fabulous Family Entertainment Annexe.

A combination of rustic charm paired with modern amenities has transformed a damp, uninsulated Grade II listed barn into a beautiful and functional leisure and gym multi-space for our clients’ family and friends to enjoy all year round.

The barn conversion now features a large living area, at one end an entertaining/chill-out space with sofas and cinema screen and at the other a games area with pool table. Adjoining this is a kitchen and a spacious home gym, and running behind the kitchen are changing rooms, shower room and utility room, with an easy separate walk-way out to the swimming pool.

Overall, the previously single-space barn has been redesigned to create multi-functional spaces separated by Crittal-style interior glazing, which can be opened up for the occasion of large gatherings and parties. The barn is now light and fresh, with views maximised over the gardens through new apertures and glazing.

As the barn is a Grade II listed building, planning permission was required for the renovations. We needed to strike a delicate balance between respecting, preserving and celebrating the integrity of the historic building, the beautiful original timbers and detailing, whilst also creating an amazing building that fulfils our clients’ requirements.

Planning was successful, with the design including a small extension to the back of the barn, enabling a new separate entrance to and from the swimming pool and creating easy access to the changing areas without needing to go through the other living spaces.

The swimming pool is located to the front of the barn with patio surround and seating at either end flanked by lawns and flowerbeds. In easy access to the main house, it is still separate enough to have its own unique feel and character, perfect for family cinema nights, teenage entertaining, gym sessions and BBQs.
