Completed: Industrial Style Extension with a Shaker Kitchen
Client’s Brief:
The client wanted to breathe new life into their existing property by redesigning the rear of the house and its connection to the garden. There was also a desire to extend the house on the ground floor to enable better use of space, with a lighter and larger open-plan kitchen. The client was amenable to making use of new glazing systems and various kitchen designs, to maximise the natural light and incorporate shaker influences in the kitchen.
Challenges we’ve overcome:
Since the property is located in a Conservation Area, we had to navigate stricter planning permission for any changes to the external appearance (specifically in terms of the windows and doors installed).
The biggest challenge, however, was that throughout the building process the client continued to live on-site. Excellent communication between HollandGreen, the contractor and the client was absolutely crucial to the client’s enjoyable experience and the successful running of the project. The house is terraced, with no direct access to the garden for transporting building materials, however through careful planning, spaces occupied by the client were at all times protected from the dust and rubble.
Final Design:
The ground floor was extended to incorporate a stunning open-plan traditional shaker kitchen by Plain English. The crittal style doors by IQ Mondrian linked the house to the garden and provided the property with a more industrial feel. The original snug/cinema was redesigned with more space and comfort.
The new industrial feel translated into the exterior with a cast iron rain hopper and downpipe.
Through close collaboration with the client, suppliers and the contractor we have been able to ensure that the transformation of this beautiful property ran smoothly and to plan.
