Contemporary, Light-Filled Riverside Home
Built within the picturesque grounds of a listed Saxon manor house, River House fulfils a challenging brief to create a striking yet sensitive contemporary new-build home.
HollandGreen Architecture worked in close collaboration with the clients to create a pavilion-style house that sits comfortably and elegantly within its historic green belt surroundings. The building follows a flowing single-story design that plays with stepped levels and unique angles. Floor-to-ceiling glazing frames uninterrupted views of the river Thames and the Oxfordshire countryside across each façade.
The main living spaces follow a minimal, open-plan design characterised by clean white lines and marble accents, leading the eye towards the surrounding views and blurring the division between inside and out. Striking floating cantilevered elements add a sense of weightlessness to the design, while capturing the elegant minimalism defined throughout the interior spaces.
Below, functional stilts give the house an effortlessly ethereal feel as it floats over the meadow, while simultaneously futureproofing against flooding to ensure sustainability for years to come.
