The Freshest Shades of White Paint To Complement Your Home.

White Paint Blog

White paint is a timeless classic when it comes to home interiors. At HollandGreen we love the subtle and varied palette that white paint has to offer – either creating a neutral canvas or making a bold statement.

“Layers of white colour and texture can create an atmosphere of peacefulness and expanse,” explains Charmaine White, our Senior Interior Designer. “A room painted white can be great for truly relaxing and clearing your mind.”

It can also be, literally, a carte blanche, “a brilliant canvas which you can adapt and add light touches to over time; it can evolve in style and taste as you do,” adds Charmaine. “It means that an already timeless design can easily be updated with, say, a large piece of art, “which can both instantly change a space and also compliment the calming feel,” she says.

Of course there are many varieties of white paint available, from bright whites to off-whites with various undertones, and their appearance will change depending on the light. Here Charmaine gives a few of her favourite freshest shades, and some advice on where and how to use them to create beautiful, inviting spaces.

1. Mindful, by Coat Paints

‘This is a bright yet earthy pale taupe. Warm and peaceful, it is a timeless neutral and makes a balanced statement in any lighting conditions. It comes in a durable flat matt finish, which is great at hiding imperfections.’

Mindful would complement a traditional interior and is great in both north and south facing rooms, creating a cosy ambience, ideal for relaxation.

2. Slipper Satin, by Farrow & Ball

‘This popular off-white takes its name from the delicate colour of silk used in traditional ballet slippers. Without cool blue undertones, Slipper Satin often reads as a pale grey chalk, which makes for a perfect neutral on walls.’

Slipper Satin offers an elegant neutral colour, complimenting all styles. This shade works particularly well with a darker off-white on woodwork, or as a trim colour.

3. Ferdinand™, by Little Greene

‘Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire was built by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild in 1883 as a country retreat; a place to host weekend house parties and an escape from London during the summer months. This elegant, warm, off-white is found on the wall panelling in the Grey Drawing Room – a place where guests came to relax, play cards and listen to music.’

With the beautiful Waddesdon Manor just a stone’s throw away from our Oxfordshire Studio, it felt only right to include this paint shade within our list. Ferdinand™ offers a warm white colour which looks stunning against both lighter and darker shades – ideal for any room looking for class and sophistication.

4. Fuji, by Paint and Paper Library

‘A slightly warm, broken white, a gentle ceiling finish for many warmer schemes.’

When we think of white paint, Fuji from Paint and Paper Library is what comes to mind. The shade presents an elegant, clean canvas look, ideal for linen white walls and ceilings.

5. White 02 Matt, by Lick Paint

‘White-ish and cool-ish, White 02 is spot on when you don’t want to commit to a white that’s too much of anything. We describe it as an off-white – and a grey-tinted easy going one at that, with a crisp and paper-like matt finish.’

White 02 Matt provides a slightly colder look to your walls which is a great choice for south and east facing rooms as it will neutralise bright light. Pair this white shade with bright furniture and décor.

6. Swiss Coffee No. 03, by Benjamin Moore

‘This colour is part of the Benjamin Moore Off-White Colour collection. Inherently sophisticated and endlessly versatile, the Off-White collection offers subtle nuances of whites that suit tranquil, serene environments as well as creates colour-enhancing accents for dynamic spaces.’

The deliciously creamy Swiss Coffee offers slight yellow undertones which go well with a variety of colour pallets, from browns, terra cotta and earthy tones to navy blues and rich charcoal greys.
