Contemporary Country Living

Surrounded by 2.3 acres, Rosewood Manor is located in the heart of the Cotswolds – a family home built with traditional Cotswolds stone and with views overlooking the rolling countryside. The clients wanted a sympathetic and thoughtful renovation of Rosewood Manor, creating contemporary spaces for family living. The project preserves the building’s historic character while reimagining its layout to create a coherent and light-filled family home, as well as pilates studio, guest accommodation and entertaining annexe.

Originally two farmworkers’ cottages from the early 1900s, the primary architectural challenge was the property’s fragmented layout, which was poorly suited to contemporary family living. Our solution was to combine two separate ground-floor reception rooms, removing internal walls to create a single, expansive open-plan kitchen and living space. This intervention establishes a new, sociable hub for the home, with wide glazing introduced to strengthen the connection to the garden.

This reconfiguration created a structural challenge, requiring a new steel beam to support the upper floor. Rather than conceal this, our design team embraced the resulting nibs and changes in ceiling height as an opportunity, incorporating a window seat to soften the transition and add character to the space.

Throughout the manor, new Crittall-style doors were introduced to draw in natural light and provide a considered link to the outdoors, ensuring the home feels connected to its surroundings year-round.

The brief also required new buildings to support the family’s lifestyle and home-based business. A new annexe was designed to provide independent living for family members, reflecting the architectural language of the main house to create visual harmony across the estate.

Upstairs, the primary suite was refined to enhance both function and flow. A previously oversized bathroom was reconfigured to create a dedicated dressing room, leading to a luxurious en-suite.

The result is a home where historic character and modern life exist in a considered, harmonious balance, perfectly tailored to its family and its setting.

Cotswolds Inspired

Located in the Cotswolds, the clients at Rosewood Manor were inspired by the surrounding landscapes. The brief for the interior design was to create a characterful and relaxed family home with a country style – celebrating the historic and introducing touches of the contemporary.

The triple aspect formal living room is designed to be elegant, yet emanate warmth. The traditional fireplace adds a cosy ambience, whilst the Crittal-style doors create a closer connection to the surrounding garden.

Farmhouse dining table anchors the living space

Thanks to the architectural reconfiguration of the manor house, the kitchen has become the heart of the home. A sprawling farmhouse dining table anchors the space – creating the perfect spot for long Sunday lunches and entertaining friends. Brass hardware and floral fabric soften the contemporary edges, whilst the Lacanche stove takes centre stage.

Designed with the bustle of family life in mind, the boot room mixes rustic terracotta floors with bespoke joinery from Langstaff – embracing functionality with a country style. The tailored storage houses wellies and boots on one side, and generous laundry cabinetry on the other.

The interior architecture was a key element in transforming the historic property to one suitable for modern family life. Bespoke joinery from Langstaff is featured throughout the manor house, creating functional yet beautiful storage spaces – including a library and hidden bar in the living room, generous pantry and wine storage areas in the kitchen, and a new bespoke dressing room for the primary bedroom.

Cotswolds Countryside Retreat

Surrounded by tranquil Cotswolds countryside, Rosewood Manor inspired a garden design that echoes its natural beauty while focusing on family life and wellbeing.

The landscape balances structure with softness, blending formal planting and naturalistic areas to create spaces for relaxation, play, and connection — a garden that feels both restorative and truly lived in.

The front garden was designed to create a welcoming sense of arrival, combining beauty with practicality through space for parking and turning. Warm-toned gravel and paving complement the Cotswolds stone of the house and annexe, while planting connects the buildings. Wisteria softens the entrance with seasonal fragrance, Pyracantha brings vibrant autumn colour and wildlife interest, and evergreen Taxus domes provide year-round structure and winter charm.

The rear garden’s mature character was retained and enhanced with new seating areas to encourage outdoor living. The main focus, a courtyard-style dining area within the U-shaped layout of the house, creates a natural extension of the interior. Soft planting and refined paving details add texture, colour, and a sense of craftsmanship.
