Rosewood Pilates Studio, Cotswolds

Calm & Contemporary

Set within the grounds of Rosewood Manor, the Pilates Studio was designed as a serene setting for the client’s personal practice and growing business. The pavilion-style building takes on a contemporary, minimalist aesthetic while remaining sensitive to the surrounding Cotswolds architecture.

The client’s brief was to incorporate natural tones and textures throughout the space. Warm timber flooring sits alongside lime-rendered walls, while a feature wall of Cotswold stone continues seamlessly from outside into the studio. This stone wall has become a defining element, providing character to the interior and a striking backdrop for online Pilates classes.

The studio is designed for flexible use and currently accommodates reformer Pilates machines. A cantilevered roof overhang provides solar shading and a sheltered outdoor area for practice. Large sliding glazed doors open the studio to the landscape, creating a seamless indoor–outdoor experience.

Responding to the client’s brief for consistent natural light, glazing was a key consideration of the design. With the studio facing west, full-height glazing captures evening light and frames views across the lawn and paddocks. High-level glazing continues around the other sides of the studio, ensuring the space feels bright, airy and connected to nature throughout the day.

Practical storage is integrated at the entrance with bespoke joinery to keep shoes, coats, and equipment out of sight, leaving the studio uncluttered and calm.

The studio also includes a spa-style bathroom with a skylight above the shower. Finished in polished concrete, the minimalist aesthetic is complemented by Samuel Heath fittings in bronze.
