A Farmstead Reconsidered

A Grade II listed Oxfordshire farmhouse and barn have been carefully re-imagined through a renovation that is both respectful and assured. The project enhances light, volume and connectivity, transforming the heart of the home into a contemporary, multi-functional setting for family life, while preserving the integrity and character of the original buildings. From the reconfigured kitchen within the farmhouse to the newly connected entertaining barn, the design realises our clients’ vision with clarity and restraint.

 

 

The adjoining barn has been adapted to create two generous double-height spaces for entertaining and gathering. Exposed timber beams retain the agricultural character of the original structure, while new glazed doors introduce daylight and establish a strong visual and physical connection with the farmhouse, reinforcing the sense of a cohesive home.

Corten fins glazed kitchen extension architecture

Within the main house, the kitchen has been lifted into the former roof space, fundamentally redefining the scale and experience of the room. Full-width glazing across the façade draws light deep into the interior, illuminating a dramatic triple-height volume. Externally, a series of bespoke Corten fins provide solar shading while offering a contemporary yet sensitive intervention within the historic building envelope.
