A Magical English Cotswold Garden

The gardens of Asher House, designed and brought to life by HollandGreen Landscapes, were the culmination of a full property and grounds renovation in a collaboration with HollandGreen Architecture.

The client’s brief was to create a beautiful English cottage garden for a young family, and at the heart of our designs was the wish to create a magical place that would create many memories and special moments.

As well as designing different areas to the gardens, the planting was a key feature. We used swathes of Salvia through mixed borders of perennial and herbaceous planting to create soft movement and textures and a light, whimsical feel, but also big splashes of colour too (and the bees love it!) Other plants we included to create the ‘cottage garden’ feel were cosmos, roses, helenium, wisteria, persicaria, lavender and dahlia.

Materials were carefully chosen to compliment the Cotswold stone of the cottage which include Yorkstone paving and Purbeck stone walling.  A reclaimed oak-framed pavilion with wood burner stove compliments the property for all year round alfresco dinning.

The gardens also include a new heated pool – with a raised platform to create a shallow area for children to play or just to soak up the sun – and a sunken spa, with stunning views over the sun-lit fields beyond, particularly when the friendly Alpacas come to say hello!
