Castle Landscapes & HollandGreen Landscapes collaborated on this outdoor ‘oasis’ with steel rill, kitchen & heritage greenhouse.
A take on the traditional walled garden in Oxfordshire has won a prestigious landscape design award.
Ryecote Walled Garden, a collaboration between Castle Landscapes and HollandGreen Landscapes, came out top in the 2024 BALI Awards, winning the Domestic Garden Construction over £250k category.
HollandGreen designed the scheme and collaborated with Castle to bring the vision to life, as part of a larger HollandGreen-led project involving the design of a car gallery and apartment new building, set alongside the main residence.
The brief was to create a sheltered oasis for entertaining and spending time outdoors, and the finished article involves a terrace with seating and dining, a bespoke outdoor kitchen, Corten Steel water rill and a modern Victorian greenhouse above stepped lawns housing a David Harber Armillary sundial sculpture.
Special mention was given to the “outstanding” paddle stone cladding of the garden walls, where each stone was chosen and placed meticulously by hand.
The BALI judges wrote of the garden:
“Ryecote Walled Garden is an excellent entry. The contractor has paid close attention to details and craftmanship, with first rate materials, paving, rill and soft works installed by a skilled team.”
Director of Landscape Design, Mark Latchford says:
“We couldn’t be prouder and would like to congratulate such a great team on their amazing achievement. There is such a huge amount of passion, creativity and collaboration (as well as humour!) needed to create a project like this, and we’re delighted for everyone involved.”
