The Greatest Month for Interior Design

September heralds one of the hottest months for interior designers, brimming with industry events and product launches.  It’s easy to get lost in the exciting whirlwind of new products and developments within our industry, which is why we have put together a round up what we’re looking forward to most at Decorex International and Focus 2018 in September.

Decorex International

Decorex has long established itself as a key event in any interior designer’s calendar, bringing together the emerging and the well-established names within the industry. This year the show celebrates its 40th anniversary by introducing the theme of ‘Blank Canvas’. Of course, we are looking forward to seeing some of the established exhibitors; Annie Sloan for that exceptional boutique colour palette and chalky finish of paint, the lighting aficionados Tigermoth and the true craftsman of ironmongery Beardmore – all British companies we are proud to support.

However, with the ‘Blank Canvas’ theme in mind, we are particularly excited about the “Future Heritage” aspect to the show this year.  Future Heritage is a space to support as well as present new artists and designers with considerable talent to the wider interior design community.

We’ve already mentioned Tord Boontje lighting collaboration with porta romana in one of our previous interior insights and we’re delighted to see him being one of the featured heritage designers under his own steam this year at Decorex. Below we see a piece from his Luminous Reflections collection which gives a gentle nod to the great artist Alexander Calder, and Bootjne also closely collaborated with Swarovski to get that perfect cast of light through the crystals used in this piece.

The other artist and furniture maker whose pieces we can’t wait to see in the flesh at Decorex is Marcin Rusak. We love the combination of the clean lines, old world florals and modern colour palette, which is perfectly captured by this sideboard.

Focus 2018

There is something about fabrics that transcends our era of Pinterest and internet shopping. Nothing beats touching or watching light hit the real thing. We are excited to see O&A London firsts’ foray into fabrics. They couldn’t have chosen a better partner than Holland & Sherry for this voyage, as their history in fashion dates back to 1836 with fine wools and silks for apparel.  Just imagine this O&A Metallah chair in this amazing fabric from Holland & Sherry’s Metropolis 2018 range ( Josephine Fabric – Colour Mimosa).

Finally, another item we’re interested to explore is the new ‘mineral’ finish collection provided by Black & Key ’s collaboration with artisan interior surface makers Kote.
