Originally a working barn, this period building has been carefully reimagined to create a light-filled home defined by clarity of space and a strong connection to landscape. A contemporary, biophilic-inspired extension opens through expansive glazing onto a secluded patio and mature, tree-lined gardens.
The architectural language of the new intervention takes cues from the site’s agricultural past, translating them into a restrained, modern form. Considered orientation and material choices allow the extension to sit comfortably alongside the original structure, complementing rather than competing with its character.
Natural light and spatial flow underpin the renovation. The extension enhances the elegance of the existing home while framing long views into the Japanese-inspired garden, which becomes an integral part of the interior experience.
A glazed link provides a clear yet sensitive threshold between old and new, visually separating the architectural eras while unifying them through shared views to the garden. Biophilic design principles are embedded throughout, creating calm, restorative spaces and a sense of retreat within this quiet pocket of London.
The interior architecture and design vision centres on creating a striking yet warm contrast between old and new, which enhances the character of the building. The theme follows a Belgian Farmhouse aesthetic, with an elegantly pared-back approach, a calming palette of neutral colours together with rich moments of colour, and with natural textures to elevate the functionality of the spaces woven with modern luxury.
