Riverbourne House, Berkshire

A Riverside Restoration

Riverbourne House is a rare riverside estate set in the heart of Berkshire, where an original Arts and Crafts residence is being reimagined through a comprehensive architectural transformation. With full planning consent secured, the proposed scheme reinterprets the home’s heritage through a contemporary lens — creating a 6,400 sq ft family home that embraces light, landscape and modern functionality, all while preserving its historic charm.

Elevated above the Thames with sweeping views across the river and surrounding countryside, the house sits within approximately three acres, including a private 1.3-acre island with long moorings and mature gardens. Our design builds on the home’s early 20th-century character, retaining key period features while introducing carefully balanced interventions — including new living spaces, an annexe, outbuildings and enhanced outdoor areas around an existing swimming pool.

The material palette and architectural detailing are rooted in the Arts and Crafts tradition, yet reinterpreted with a refined, contemporary language. Generous glazing connects the interiors to their setting, and the reconfigured layout supports modern family living with clarity, openness and flow.
