The Hide wins Design Excellence Award at the Berkhamsted Citizens Association Annual Environment Awards
We are delighted to announce The Hide has received the 2022 Berkhamsted Citizens’ Environment award for Design Excellence.
The Citizens’ award is given annually since its introduction in 1980, and is presented to any outstanding development, building or garden that is judged to have contributed and significantly enhanced the environment of the town.
The Hide was crowned from a shortlist of 12 properties and commended by a panel of judges for its originality and innovative design that compliments the surrounding vernacular. In particular it was noted as an example of how contemporary architecture can sit so comfortably next to important historic architecture, in this instance the Grade II* listed Great Barn next door.

About The Hide
The Hide is a contemporary, industrial-style family home perched on a steeply sloping site overlooking the beautiful Frithsden valley.
A refined selection of reclaimed materials are at the heart of the building’s unique character – with industrial Corten steel accents and Crittal windows framing the countryside surrounds, while Chiltern red brick and black timber cladding provide a modern take on the traditional building materials of the local area.
The project was the result of a collaboration between the HollandGreen Architecture and Interior Design teams, marrying a sustainable approach with beautifully contemporary details, and brought to life in partnership with the skilled construction team at Barr Build.

Our designs sought to create a contemporary, light-filled new home, taking advantage of the incredible views over the valley but equally sitting sensitively alongside the next-door Grade II* listed Great Barn – bringing new, without detracting from the old.
